2. History of the Institution: The art education in Delhi is served by two premier institutions. The College of Art, affiliated with the Delhi University & financed by the Govt. of N.C.T. Delhi which runs the degree courses and The Sarada Ukil School of Art affiliated with the Board of Technical Education (Govt. of N.C.T. Delhi) & financed by the Directorate of Technical Education (Govt. of N.C.T. Delhi). The Sarada Ukil school of Art was established in the year 1926 by the eminent artist, Late Sarada Charan Ukil and after his death during the year 1942 his brother Late Barada Charan Ukil decided that the management of the institution be run by a trust which was later got registered as a society under the Society Registration Act, 1860. The All India Fine Arts & Craft Society / Rafi Marg, New Delhi has acknowledged the following in its catalogue of 19th March 2005 “through the active and keen initiative of the illustrations Ukil brothers, Sarada, Barada and Ranada, the All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society was founded in 1928 in New Delhi, to propagate Art and Culture in India and abroad and to look after the upliftment of the artists of India in particular. The Ukil brothers wished to create a platform and a forum in which Indian arts could find expression and on which different artistic traditions and practices could interact for their mutual enlightenment and benefit”. The three year Diploma in Art for Drawing Teachers course was recognized and affiliated by the All India Council for Technical Education (Govt. of India) & the Board of Technical Education (Govt. of N.C.T. Delhi), subsequently a the One Year Part-time Diploma in Commercial Art course was added for the artists who were engaged in the profession of Art. The institution was covered under Grant-in-aid rule by the Directorate of Training & Technical Education (Govt. of N.C.T. Delhi) since in the year 1973-74. 3. Courses offered:
